Kayaks

We picked up a couple of small Sit on Top (SOT) kayaks recently. We have a small (300 acre) lake across the street from us and wanted a way to be able to enjoy it without too much effort or expense. I was able to pick up the kayaks from a local company that manufactures them. The kayaks are sold as the "Splash" and can be found through a variety of distributors on the internet. We had been introduced to kayaking while vacationing in Maine. We had taken a couple of half day kayak trips in sit-in tandem sea kayaks. We loved being close to the water and thought it might be fun to take up paddling once we got home. We looked at some traditional touring and recreational kayaks and pretty quickly, my wife decided she was most interested in a SOT given the ease of entry/exit, comfort, etc. Speed and storage weren't major concern so us, so we checked out the leading SOTs. For us, the Perception Swing and Necky Cruiser were the front runners. As we do more paddling, one of these will likely be our next boats. In the meantime, I ran across a great deal on the Splash SOTs. They are definitely in the "recreation" category. Overall dimensions 10' x 30", about 50 lbs., easy to carry with grab handles or even solo using a built in molded handle. |
